A cluttered home breeds a cluttered mind! No matter how tidy, neat, or organized you may think you are, years of accumulating “things” has a way of impacting your sanity.
That outfit you wore 10 years ago and have held on to with hopes you’ll fit in to it again…time to donate it! That manual for the vacuum that you purchased 5 years ago that you can find a copy online… toss it! The plastic container that you have set aside in hopes that one day you’ll locate the top… get rid of it!
Now, doesn’t that feel good? And there is so much more you can do to declutter your home that in turn helps you to smile a little more, breathe a little better, and see a little clearer. Trying to tackle it all at once will be overwhelming, take it one room at a time, and give yourself a time limit, it’s an ongoing project that over time, you’ll thank yourself for.
Here are some tips to decluttering your space and what to get rid of:
- If you haven’t used it in two years
- If it is broken
- If you can find the replacement online (i.e manuals, documents, etc…)
- Taxes that are more than 3 years old
- If you can scan it and keep the electronic file
There are resources available all over that you can dispose and even donate your goods:
Amvets: Clothing and furniture (pick-up available)
Electronic Recycling: Old or broken electronics
Paper Shredding: Private or classified documents
Habitat for Humanity: Furniture (pick-up available)
